Helping Some New Friends

Ron and Kay Broom are native to Jacksonville, FL, but with their family so spread out, they’ve been traveling around the US for some time. Juju and I actually met them at Sunny Oaks RV Park in Jax during our regular walk around the park with our dog Sophie.

Ron’s beaming smile can be seen a mile away when he lights up as people pass by his RV lot. When sporting his Vietnam Veteran ball cap and suspenders, he strikes an uncanny resemblance to Juju’s Uncle Bill.

And Kay loves to keep her home-away-from-home nice and tidy. Each time we would stop and talk, she comes out with a warm smile that seemingly tells me, “I just baked an apple pie in hopes you would stop by.” He and Kay can normally be seen piddling around the outside their Class A coach, playing fetch with their black lab Roscoe, who loves cheap frisbees. This is actually how we came to meet the Brooms.

One day on our daily dog walk, we struck up a conversation that proceeded much longer than the usual daily chat. Those chats were usually brief because Sophie would tug on her leash as if saying, “Come on! I’ve been laying around all day watching y’all work, this is my time. This is my walk.” This day’s chat didn’t take Sophie’s interest much into account. Anyway, as our conversation progressed, we ended up mentioning the YouTube channel and their faces lit up. After letting us know they watch a lot of YouTube videos and finding out what we do on the channel for content, I was volunteered to assist Ron in installing an antenna for his new CB radio. I happily obliged and once we found out they were pulling out in 2 days’ time, we quickly scheduled the install to make sure they were set for the road.

Although installing the antenna was relatively simple after we figured out where to run the cable, we had a nice time completing the project together. And the company made it that much easier.
