A Little Fun, Flair, and Missing Shoes

Yesterday’s travels were a breeze. Although we ran across construction, slow traveling speeds, and several state trooper stops (not us), no major events to speak of.

The obstacles we did run into didn’t happen until we reached Swamp Fox Campground in Florence, SC while setting up. First was an issue with our auto-leveling system to separate the truck and trailer.

Apparently, with this particular leveling controller, you’re not supposed to select the Hitch Height option when disconnecting the rig. It sends a fault to the controller panel (ours is inoperable right now) and won’t do anything else until the fault is cleared. We tried using the app on our phones to lear the fault, but the app wouldn’t register the OK option to do so. And the procedure on the controller to clear the fault manually doesn’t work as intended.

What did work, however, is a hard reset which consisted of uncoupling the feed from the truck, shore power, as well as engaging the battery disconnect. That did it.

While we waited for the controller to time-out, we went ahead with setting up the water, sewer, and shore power. This came with it’s own obstacles as when hooking up the sewer to the rear tank, the removal of the cap revealed a gush of it’s contents onto my shoes. Ew.

Even though the valve was closed, there was still black water right at the cap, waiting for me to dump it onto my shoe. Welp, gotta wash those, but a funny thing happened. We set our shoes on the back steps to dry while we went to the store and when we returned, one of my shoes was missing from the steps. Weird.

Come to find out, a local resident’s dog decided to engage in some RV park thievery and make off with my shoe and our next door neighbor’s croc (who showed up while we were at the store). Juju hunted this dog down and retrieved the freshly washed shoe pictured here (it’s supposed to be jet black in color). He was such a happy dog, so he got a scratch behind the ear and sent on his way.
